GP earnings

All GP practices are required to publish the average pay for the GPs who work there. This is that declaration.

The declaration

All GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (for example, average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Dronfield Medical Practice in the last financial year was £103,889 before tax and national insurance. This is for 2 full time GPs and 7 part time GPs and 0 locums who worked in the practice for more than six months.

How to read this figure

It should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading, because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice. It should not be used to form any judgment about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.

We would also like to explain that these figures are based on a full time average working week of 48 hours:

  • two GPs work 48 or more hours per week, classed as full time
  • three GPs work between 36 and 40 hours per week
  • two GPs work 33 hours per week
  • one GP works 27.5 hours per week
  • one GP works 22 hours per week.

All but the first two are classed as part time, even though five of them work above or near a normal 37 hour working week.
